Joe Knollenberg out of touch with constituents

A group of about 35 Oakland County residents were at Joe Knollenberg’s office today to deliver a photo peition regarding the issues that are important to them and letters addressed to Congressman Knollenberg voicing their disapproval of his vote in the House of Representatives regarding the nonbinding resolution on the war in Iraq.

Shawn Ciavattone, Mr. Knollenberg’s staffer in his Farmington Hills office, refused to let the protestors into the office and would only speak to them in the hallway outside of Mr. Knollenberg’s office. Mr. Knollenberg has consistently refused to meet with constituents on prior occasions.

Mr. Knollenberg apparently forgotten who he works for and who pays his salary.

MoveOn.org members recently did a survey on the issue of the escalation war in Iraq in which 77% of respondents in Birmingham, a Republican stronghold and the core of Mr. Knollenberg’s district, were against the escalation of the war. Clearly Mr. Knollenberg is out of step with voters in his district.

  1. TLW says:

What do you all think of Knollenberg’s efforts to protect American auto jobs from being gobbled up by Toyota?

Senator Carl Levin won reelection in 1984 largely based on a hard-hitting TV ad that criticized his GOP opponent, Jack Lousma, for driving a Toyota.

Now Toyota is on the cusp of surpassing GM as the world’s largest automaker. This big CAFE increase being pushed by Gore, Pelosi and Barbara Boxer would mean lights out for The Big 3, UAW and Detroit.

If these CAFE standards go up, GM, Ford and Chrysler would have to pay money to Toyota to manufacture their top selling pickup trucks (their lifeblood).

Knollenberg has criticized Bush for backing higher CAFE as well. He’s fighting for the auto industry and Michigan.

You don’t oppose Knollenberg’s efforts to protect auto jobs do you?

  2. With Liberty & Justice for all . . . says:

Knollenberg hasn’t done anything to protect the American Auto Industry.

Knollenberg supported the trade agreements that have resulted in the problems the auto industry is now facing.

Do-nothing Knollenberg isn’t doing anything to help our auto workers.

Knollenberg is not viewed in this District or anywhere in the country as a supporter of the auto industry.

His recent interest in the industry are the result of his recognition that by 2008 the voters in this District will know just how much of a failure Knollenberg is and just how out of step and out of touch he is with the voters of this District.

Watch us. We’ll show you and Chet how it is done.
